Knitting and Scrabble - A perfect pair

Here is Sandi knitting "Argyle Vest"  in Rowan Felted Tweed from Color Style by Ann Budd and Pam Allen - Interweave Press while playing scrabble.  The vest makes up quickly with a ribbed back for fit.  The front will have irregular argyle diamonds in five additional colors. 

She won the scrabble game too!

Impromptu Knitalong

We're always looking for a good cardigan around here, and Ariann from Chic Knits is a good cardigan. It's a flattering fit and a quick knit. We got inspired to knit Ariann this week, so Nathania cast one on in Cascade 220 Superwash, Sandi in Blue Moon Fiber Arts WooBu in the Bleck colorway, Jasmin in Dream in Color Classy in Butter Peeps, and Chloe in Cascade Venezia Worsted in the best red ever. One evening of work and we're all cruising right along. The body is knit in one piece to the armholes, the sleeves are knit, then joined to the body and knit in the round with raglan decreases. It works up beautifully in any number of worsted weight yarns. Perfect spring knitting!

Oh, Baby!

We're always excited to offer new and wonderful laceweight yarns, and Baby from Dream in Color is no exception. The veil dyeing process goes beyond shaded solid to a subtle  and completely unique, variegated finish. This lovely bit of lace is the Shetland Lace Triangle from Wrap Style, knit in the Gothic Rose

colorway. A super quick knit, and a relatively easy lace pattern make this a perfect little wrap to toss over your shoulders on chilly evenings.

More Ribbys!

Cynthia wasn't able to join us for the festivities on Saturday, but she finished her Ribby Pulli, just the same. Her beautiful Ribby is knit in Dream in Color Classy in the Dusky Aurora colorway. Classy is one of our new favorite yarns and we're in love with this color. Must order more!

Sandi fell in love with the Art Yarns Supermerino in color number 132. It took a while to come up with the perfect color to coordinate, but in the end some lovely Cascade 220 won the race. She was just *this* close to finishing it for Saturday, but didn't quite make it. Yesterday afternoon she put the final rows on the neckline and cast that baby off! 

Surprise! Her Scoop Neck Ribby has a hood. She combined the instructions of the Scoop Neck version with the Hoodie version and voila! She's pleased as punch with the result.

We still have Ribby fever around here. Nathania's plotting a V-neck version. Will you Ribby too?

FOs for Fall

We've been knitting up a storm here at the shop, as we enjoy the cooler weather that autumn brings and fire up the A/C on days when it still seems like summer. Stop in to see the crop of new socks (including samples of the Kaffe Fassett sock yarns), and Nathania's newly completed Spanish Dancer. She knit Sandi's pattern featured in last Winter's Knitty in the glorious Rayon Metallic from Blue Heron Yarns.

Gauge should read as:

Gauge: In Rib (relaxed): 22 sts and 32 rows = 4” (10cm) on size US 6/4mm needles

 In Brocade: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4” (10cm) on size US 8/5mm needles

Happy Holiday Tree

Our holiday tree is be-decked with lots of purple and pink balls and a few handknits here and there. This little sock was knit by our friend Becky. She was working on a pair of socks in this gorgeous color of Claudia Handpainted Yarn and she devised this little one for us. Click to embiggen and see the cute cable detail that she added.

Chloe knit this adorable little mitten in the Claudia Buckeye colorway. This color was added to her line up by special request from an Ohio Buckeyes fan. Chloe knit the mitten in no time flat and hung it proudly on the tree.

She also knit a matching hat. We wish we had included a dime for scale; this hat is so teensy it fits on top of a thumb, too tiny even for a Barbie doll. It's also the Buckeye colorway.

Nathania knit a dinky little sock in red 4 Ply Soft from Rowan. She couldn't resist adding a couple of white stripes and crooned with delight over turning the tiny little heel.

A picture of Cari's Fair Isle sock is still forthcoming and we're hoping that more tiny knits will be added to our tree before the season ends. Happy Holidays!

If you don't know Knitty, we think it's time you had a look.  Knitty is an online knitting magazine filled with stellar patterns, helpful articles on technique, and witty write ups on knitting.  You'll find some familiar faces on the patterns page.  Sandi and Chloe both have designs featured in this winter's issue and couldn't be more excited! Sandi's is "Spanish Dancer," a fluttery edged shawl that's as beautiful as it is warm.  Chloe's is "Twinkle Toes," a pair of quick to make,  ballerina inspired slippers.  Of course, both patterns feature yarns we've got available here at the shop! Spanish dancer is made from Claudia's handpainted and Twinkle Toes is knit from Rowan's Calmer.  Come on down and see the pieces in person.

Happy Halloween!

No sign of the UPS man today, but we do have something lovely and new to show you. Chloe couldn't wait to get her hands on the gorgeous Road to China, so she grabbed a hank of the Topaz and cast on a moebius cowl. She finished it in practically no time! It's warm and cozy and works equally well as a neck warmer or headband/ear warmer.

Scarlett O'Hara appeared at the shop today for some knitting time. She heartily approves of the chaise lounge as a knitting spot. She's got some deliciously soft Malabrigo going into Chic Knits' Ariann pattern. Hope you all have a wonderful and safe Halloween!
